Frederick Douglass CTI Students participate in
State Spring Leadership Conference

The CTI State Leadership Conference was held at the Macon City Marriott and Centreplex, April 29-May 1, 2010. There were approximately 530 students from around the state entered in 34 competitive areas. The students were entertained by Keith Brown, Motivator of the Millennium who delivered a strong but energized message about being the best. His message to the students was to turn the IMPOSSIBLE to I’M POSSIBLE!

Below are the Douglass participants:

DeMarius Cook and Rashawn Ware were in the Team Career Skills Events –Pro Foods. Both are member of the HTM community at Douglass and desire to work in culinary arts.

Krishuana Burgess participated in Video Production. The 3 minute video was based on the CTI state theme: “ I Lead and Succeed with CTI”. Krishuana is a member of the Center for Applied Technology SLC at Douglass and desires to work in the communications field.

Joshua Smith participated in Job Interview/Applications Skills. His portfolio qualified him for the state event then he made the top twelve and placed 3rd in the state. Joshua is a member of the Communications and Journalism SLC at Douglass. He desires to be an auto mechanic and design cars for stars.

 

Samuel Wright participated in Job Interview however he didn’t make the final twelve but learned some valuable leadership skills with Keith Brown, motivational speaker. Shanese Scott participated in Occupational Creative Thinking teamed with David Parker(below).

David Parker with his CTI Coordinator Mrs. Angela Rucker. David was elected CTI State President for the 2010-2011 school year while at the conference. He is a member of the Business and Entrepreneurship SLC at Douglass.


CTI Students Participate in Job Shadow Experience
At Atlanta Airport Marriott

Seven students from Atlanta Public High Schools participated in a job shadow experience at the Atlanta Airport Marriott on February 9, 2010. These students are all members of their schools CTI program and were greeted by Human Resource Manager, Ms. Donna Lewis and the students were given an overview of the Marriott Company. They were given a tour of the facilities and even shown a plush guest suite. Afterwards the students were given a chance to shadow an employer in three areas: laundry/housekeeping; gift shop and culinary (the kitchen) for a least an hour. Then the students were treated to a buffet lunch to fellowship and discuss their experiences. Afterwards they returned to the Human Resource office and were asked to give an evaluation of the day. Each student received a red Marriott tote bag, a Marriott Bridges Foundation Personal Pocket Calendar (with a helpful Pocket resume inside) and a Marriott Award Certificate stating “Spirit to Serve: Ready for a Hotel Career. HR Manager informed them of job openings available at their location and a new location in the Atlanta Airport area opening in June 2010 and gave them her business card for future references.
